Updates and Uninstall

How WhisperWizard checks GitHub for updates, how to install a build by hand, and how to quit, remove the app, clear local data, turn off macOS permissions, and free a license seat on another Mac.

Automatic updates

Every plan includes 1 year of updates. WhisperWizard checks GitHub for a new release about once an hour and asks whether you want to update now when one is out. Say yes and it downloads in the background, then tells you "Updates downloaded, the application will restart to apply the update."

After the year, the version you have keeps working. Every plan includes one year of updates, delivered by the app's built-in updater from GitHub releases. License and Devices covers the plan limits, and the changelog lists every release.

Manual update

Download the latest build from the download page and drag it over the old WhisperWizard in Applications. Your settings, templates and history stay. If pasting stops right after an update, macOS may need Accessibility turned on again: see After an update in Permissions.

Quit WhisperWizard

WhisperWizard is a menu-bar app with no Dock icon. Open the menu-bar icon (the five-bar mark) and choose Quit. You can also use the Quit item listed next to the shortcuts in Shortcuts.

Remove the app and local data

WhisperWizard is macOS-only. There is no Windows, Linux or iPhone build to uninstall.

  1. Quit the app from the menu-bar icon.
  2. Remove WhisperWizard from your Applications folder (the same folder you dragged it into at install).
  3. Delete its Application Support folder at ~/Library/Application Support/WhisperWizard/ if you want every recording, template and setting gone. Audio files live under ~/Library/Application Support/WhisperWizard/recordings/. Removing the app and that folder removes everything WhisperWizard kept on disk. Security and Privacy describes what was stored locally.

You can delete individual recordings from History and Templates before you remove the app if you only want some items gone.

Turn off macOS permissions

If WhisperWizard is gone but you want to tidy Privacy settings, open System Settings (on macOS 12 and earlier, System Preferences), then Privacy and Security:

  • Microphone: switch WhisperWizard off.
  • Accessibility: select WhisperWizard and remove it with -.
  • Automation: expand WhisperWizard and switch System Events off.

These are the same panels described in Permissions.

Free a license seat

Uninstalling does not automatically deactivate the Mac on your plan. Lemon Squeezy still counts this computer until the seat is freed.

If every device on your plan is in use and you need the key on a new Mac, email [email protected] from your purchase address with the old Mac's name. We free the seat and you activate the new one. The same email works if you are within 14 days and want a refund: Refund Policy.
