Each prompt you write is a template with its own hotkey. It runs on your own OpenAI API key, so you need one for WhisperWizard to work.

Yes. A template, or spell, is your own prompt that runs on your OpenAI API key, bound to its own hotkey. You can create as many as you want, each with its own prompt, model and shortcut.

Press ⌥⇧Space to start a plain recording and ⌥Esc to stop; the text lands where your cursor was. ⌥Space opens the template palette, and ⌃⌥1 to ⌃⌥6 start a recording with one of the built-in templates already chosen. Every shortcut can be rebound in Settings. See the full keymap.

If it has a text cursor and ⌘V pastes there, it works: Mail, Gmail in the browser, Slack, Notion, Google Docs, your code editor. WhisperWizard pastes the way you would, into the app that was in front when you pressed the shortcut.

No. It uses the clipboard for a moment to paste, then puts back whatever you had copied before. Every result is also kept in your history if you need it again.

Speak in the language you think in: OpenAI's Whisper detects the language on its own. To get the text in another language, use a template, like the built-in The Translator on ⌃⌥2 or your own. How templates work.

You will need the following to use WhisperWizard: an OpenAI API key, a WhisperWizard license key, and a Mac with macOS 10.13 or newer (Intel) or macOS 11 or newer (Apple Silicon).

WhisperWizard shows "OpenAI API Key is not valid." when OpenAI rejects your key. Check billing first, in your OpenAI billing settings:

• Add a payment method. Keys without billing are refused by the API.
• Make sure your usage limit is not set too low.

No, you can't. Your ChatGPT Plus subscription and OpenAI API key are different. You need to have your own OpenAI API key to use WhisperWizard.

No, WhisperWizard only works on macOS: 10.13 or newer on Intel Macs, 11 or newer on Apple Silicon Macs. It doesn't work on Windows or Linux.

WhisperWizard has no server of its own, so we don't store your recordings, transcripts or templates. They stay on your Mac (see History) until you delete them. Your requests go directly to OpenAI with your own API key, so OpenAI's privacy rules apply to them.

On your Mac only. The audio files live in ~/Library/Application Support/WhisperWizard/recordings/, and the history keeps the original and the processed transcript side by side. Audio goes to OpenAI once, to be transcribed, and never to a WhisperWizard server. Security and Privacy.

No. Transcription and templates run on OpenAI, and the license is checked online about every 10 minutes, so you need an internet connection while you use it.
