Permissions

Microphone to hear you, Accessibility to paste for you, Automation to put you back in the right app. What each permission does, where to switch it on, and what breaks without it.

The three permissions

WhisperWizard asks macOS for exactly what the pipeline needs and nothing more.

  • Microphone. Records your voice while the recorder is open. macOS shows WhisperWizard's request as "Please give us access to your microphone." Nothing is recorded until you press a shortcut, and recording stops when you press Option Escape .
  • Accessibility. Lets WhisperWizard press ⌘V on your behalf, so the text lands at your cursor. Without it, the text is still copied but never pasted.
  • Automation (System Events). When you start recording, WhisperWizard remembers which app was in front. When the text is ready it asks System Events to bring that app back to the front, so the paste goes to the right window.

Where to switch them on

macOS prompts for each one the first time it is needed. If you clicked Don't Allow, or the paste never happens, turn them on by hand. Open System Settings (on macOS 12 and earlier, System Preferences), then Privacy and Security:

  1. Microphone: switch WhisperWizard on.
  2. Accessibility: switch WhisperWizard on. If it is not listed, click + and add it from Applications.
  3. Automation: expand WhisperWizard and switch System Events on.

Quit WhisperWizard from the menu-bar icon (Quit) and open it again, so macOS hands it the new permissions.

After an update

macOS ties Accessibility permission to the exact app it approved. After an update the switch can look on and still not work. If pasting stops after an update, select WhisperWizard in the Accessibility list, remove it with -, add it again with +, then reopen the app.

What WhisperWizard never asks for

No screen recording, no full disk access, no contacts or files, no admin password. It only works with the audio you record on purpose and the text it pastes. Security and Privacy shows where every byte goes.
