WhisperWizard vs Voice Memo + ChatGPT: seven steps or one?

Enough when you want AI-shaped text once in a while and do not mind the loop. WhisperWizard runs the whole loop on one shortcut.

Who should pick which

Honest answer first: when Voice Memo + ChatGPT wins.

Pick Voice Memo + ChatGPT if

  • You want AI-shaped text once in a while and do not mind the loop.
  • You already pay for a ChatGPT plan and want no other bill.
  • You want to chat back and forth about the result before using it.
  • You work on Windows, Linux or your phone as much as your Mac.

Pick WhisperWizard if

  • This is a daily motion and the seven steps add up.
  • You use the same few prompts again and again and want them on hotkeys.
  • You want the result pasted into the app you were in, with your clipboard restored.
  • You want your recordings and both versions of the text kept on your Mac.

Switching

Coming from Voice Memo + ChatGPT? Read this first.

  1. 1

Your ChatGPT plan does not cover it

ChatGPT Plus and the OpenAI API are billed separately. WhisperWizard needs an API key from platform.openai.com, billed per use to your OpenAI account.

  2. 2

    Move your favourite prompts over

Paste each prompt you keep reusing into a WhisperWizard template, put {{voice}} where your words go, and give it a hotkey. The Spellbook has six to start from.

  3. 3

    Keep ChatGPT for conversations

WhisperWizard is one-shot: speak, cast, paste. When you want a back-and-forth about a draft, ChatGPT is still the right window.

Notes and sources

The manual loop: record, transcribe, copy, open ChatGPT, write the prompt, copy the result, paste it where it belongs. WhisperWizard does those seven steps in one keystroke, with your own prompt.

Can I use my ChatGPT Plus subscription for WhisperWizard?

No. Your ChatGPT Plus subscription and an OpenAI API key are different things. WhisperWizard needs your own OpenAI API key, and OpenAI bills that usage separately to your OpenAI account.

Is the result the same as pasting into ChatGPT?

It uses OpenAI models too: Whisper for the transcript, then an OpenAI chat model with your template's prompt. The difference is the loop: one shortcut instead of record, transcribe, copy, open ChatGPT, prompt, copy back and paste.

Where do my recordings go?

From your Mac straight to your own OpenAI account, and the recordings stay on your Mac in WhisperWizard's history. There is no WhisperWizard server in between.
