What is stored where, what OpenAI sees, and what we never touch. No badges, just the data path, drawn from the app's source.
The data path
Your Mac, your OpenAI account, your cursor.

Every hop your words make
01
Your Mac
Records after you press the shortcut. Audio, history and templates are saved here.
02
Your OpenAI account
Whisper transcribes; your template's prompt runs on the model you picked. Billed to your key.
03
Your cursor
Pasted into the app you were in. Your clipboard is put back.

The only other calls the app makes
Lemon Squeezy
License key and instance id, every 10 minutes. Nothing you say.
GitHub Releases
An hourly check for a newer version. You approve each install.
WhisperWizard servers: none. There is no account with us, and no copy of your audio, text, templates or key on any machine of ours.
What leaves your Mac
Four things, and where they go.
Your audio
→ OpenAI, with your key
Each time you stop a recording
Sent as a .webm file to OpenAI's Whisper transcription endpoint. No language is forced, so Whisper detects it.
The transcript and your template's prompt
→ OpenAI, with your key
Only when a template runs
Your prompt with {{voice}} replaced by the transcript, sent to OpenAI Chat Completions with the template's model.
Your license key
→ Lemon Squeezy
At activation, then every 10 minutes
The key and this Mac's instance id, so the license can be validated. Nothing about your recordings.
An update check
→ GitHub Releases
About once an hour
The app asks GitHub whether a newer version exists, then asks you before it installs anything.
What stays on your Mac

Your settings and your OpenAI key

Bring your own key
Your key, your account, your limits.
Cap it
Set a monthly budget in OpenAI's billing limits. The app can never spend past it.
Billing limits ↗Revoke it
Delete the key in your OpenAI account at any time and make a new one. Nothing on our side to update.
API keys ↗Read OpenAI's rules
Your requests are between you and OpenAI, so OpenAI's privacy policy and API terms apply to them.

Permissions and control
What the app may touch, and why.
Microphone
Used only after you press a record or template shortcut, until you stop. There is no always-on listening.
Accessibility
Lets the app press ⌘V for you, so the text lands at your cursor. Paste is the only thing it is used for.
Automation (System Events)
Lets the app bring the app you were typing in back to the front before it pastes. Nothing else is controlled.
Your clipboard
Borrowed for the single paste, then restored to what you had copied before.
Deleting
Delete any recording from History. Removing the app and its Application Support folder removes everything it kept.
This website
The site is not the app.
PostHog (EU)
Anonymous page views and clicks on this website, so we can see which pages help. Not in the app.
Lemon Squeezy
Checkout, payment, license keys, refunds and the affiliate program, as the merchant that processes every order.
Agent.so
The support chat on this website. Only what you type into it is sent.

Asked often
Is my data safe?
WhisperWizard has no server of its own, so we don't store your recordings, transcripts or templates. They stay on your Mac (see History) until you delete them. Your requests go directly to OpenAI with your own API key, so OpenAI's privacy rules apply to them.
