Use case

Writing in Another Language, think in one, send in another.

Speak in one language and let a template translate or reshape your words for you.

Starter spell: The Translator · suggested ⌃⌥2

The moment

You know what you mean. The other language is the slow part.

You can explain the idea perfectly in the language you think in. The slow part is producing the polished version in the language your client, colleague, or audience actually reads.

You say
“Confirm the delivery date for the fourteenth, thank them for the sample, and ask about pricing for the larger batch.”
It lands as
The message in natural French at your register - the pleasantries, the question, and nothing lost in between.

The Translator is the starter template that lets you dictate in one language and paste polished text in another - copy it from the library or write your own in the app.

One recording, both versions

Say it like this. Send it like that.

The raw transcript on the left is what Whisper hears. The right is what lands at your cursor. History keeps both, with the audio, on your Mac.

Raw transcript

um, confirm the delivery date for the fourteenth, uh, thank them for the sample, and ask about pricing for the larger batch

Whisper heard every “um”.

TranslatorControl Option 2

The Translator · Example

Je vous confirme la livraison pour le 14.

Merci beaucoup pour l'échantillon ! Pourriez-vous nous indiquer vos tarifs pour une commande plus importante ?

Pasted at your cursor · both versions kept in History

How it plays out

Four beats, no typing.

  1. 1

Put your cursor where the text goes

Any Mac app with a text field: mail, chat, a doc, a form. WhisperWizard remembers which app was in front.

  2. 2

    Press ⌃⌥2 and talk

One hotkey starts the recording and picks The Translator. Speak the way you would tell a colleague.

  3. 3

    Press ⌥Esc to stop

Whisper transcribes on your OpenAI account, then the spell's prompt runs on the transcript.

  4. 4

It lands, your clipboard comes back

The text is pasted where your cursor was, your previous clipboard is restored, and History keeps both versions with the audio.

Control Option 2

The Translator

Dictate in one language, paste polished text in another.

Translate what I said into natural, conversational French. Match the register I used - formal where I was formal, casual where I was casual. Output only the translation.

Tips

Get more from every take.

  • One spell per language

Copy The Translator twice, set one to German and one to Spanish, and give each its own hotkey.

  • Speak the way you think

Whisper detects the spoken language on its own. There is no setting to switch before you talk.

  • Into English

The built-in The Translator is on ⌃⌥2. Swap the prompt's target language to English when you think in one language and write in English.

Questions

Asked out loud.

Which languages does WhisperWizard understand?

It uses OpenAI's Whisper, which detects the spoken language automatically and handles the widely spoken languages well. The language that comes out is whatever your template's prompt asks for.

Does the translation keep my tone?

The Translator is told to match your register: formal where you were formal, casual where you were casual. Add "always formal" to the prompt if every message should be.

Five more

Other ways to skip the typing.

All six use cases

WhisperWizard is macOS only (10.13 or newer on Intel, 11 or newer on Apple Silicon) and runs on your own OpenAI API key - your recordings go straight to OpenAI, we never see or store them on our servers (History keeps its copy on your Mac). The honest comparison says when built-in dictation is already enough.
